We’re pleased to announce the launch of a separate Digital Matte Artists section in addition to the Previs Artists section on the Direct Action website of the Art Directors Guild.
The Guild represents Matte Artists and has for some time. Because Digital Matte Artists perform the same function – creating scenes employing photographic-like painting combined with live-action to create the illusion of reality – but with different tools, the Guild represents these artists as well, under the same terms and conditions in the collective bargaining agreement covering Matte Artists.

This site is hosted by the Art Directors Guild, Local 800 of the IATSE (ADG), to provide Previs Artists and Digital Matte Artists with the tools and information necessary to organize their workplaces and earn the wages and benefits to which they’re entitled, and to gain membership in and representation by a strong Hollywood union.
This site is called “Artists for Direct Action” for a reason: your rights are yours for the taking, but “taking them” is the key – you’ve got to want them, and do what’s necessary to get them. And that’s where we come in. It’s not just you, it’s not just the Guild, it’s us, you and the Guild, working together to make this happen. In the coming weeks this site will be frequently updated, giving you vital information on how together we can get you what is rightfully yours.
